Nigerian Early C20th

A Nigerian ikenga sculpture from the Igbo tribe. An ikenga is a ritual object. It symbolizes masculine strength and the ability to achieve.

The essential feature of the ikenga is a pair of horns, usually considered to be ram horns. The horns symbolize qualities attributed to the ram: aggression, perseverance, and restraint when required.

The Igbo people are an ethnic group native to the present-day south-central and southeastern Nigeria.
