This is a beautiful oil painting by the French artist Roger Derieux (1922-2015).
Born in Paris, Derieux studied at the Academic de la Grande Chaumiere and the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs. He illustrated the poems of French Symbolist poets such as Charles Baudelaire, and throughout his career, experimented with Fauvism, Cubism and Abstraction. He eventually developed his own unique style, which combined elements of all three with a soft pastel palette.
Derieux has had more than fifty solo exhibitions all around the world from Switzerland to Japan. A selection of his works belong to museum collections, including the Musee des Beaux Arts in Grenoble.
The artist’s signature can be found on the bottom left hand corner of the painting.
